Sea Cruise
I'm just off the cruise ship, Mariner of the Seas, after a week in the Caribbean. Here are three pix Cathy took. I'm taking a steel drum lesson in the first one. Not my favorite sound but I had to see how it all works. Can you guess what the second one is? We were amazed to see it and to capture it. Finally here is our ship from high up the side of some volcanic mountain.
When you live in Florida, you really don't need to see the sea or another palm tree. When you eat and work out like I do, you don't need to be seduced all night and all day with fat globules disguised as food. BUT what I really needed and got was a heavy dose of family. In this case it was Cathy's family, all of whom I deeply love. During the week I spent recording in NY, I got to spend a lot of time with my daughter, Bree and that was perfect. I've seen a lot of her this year. A dream come true. I also got to see my brother, Don and my Mom, still rockin' at age 90. Between these two trips I got to teleconference with my son, Jason, and granddaughter, Stella. The word "granddaughter" still catches in my throat. But I can say, "I love you, Stella!" with a lump of joyful emotion.
The year is only just half over and there's still a lot of cool family stuff ahead.
But the cruise was such good fun. Cathy's sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Carol, celebrated their wedding anniversary by bringing their five children, spouses and grandchildren on this cruise. Cathy and I latched on and brought her daughter, Mic, as well. I was mostly an observer but enjoyed every minute. It is a pretty special energy, that family has when they all get together. And I don't think I've ever seen them all together with their kids at the same time. Not sure when that will ever happen again. So it was like tasting a very rare fine wine. I'm still smiling at the memory of it.
Cathy was very generous in granting me some alone time each day to work on music in our stateroom. The music is going well and I'm very excited by the roughs I brought back from the first recording session. This is going to be a very good CD.
Two more weeks before I go back to resume and probably finish the bulk of that work. Plenty to get ready for in the meantime. One more gig this weekend and a bunch of guitar students.
I'll be trying to catch up reading up on my blogpals.
