Whatever your learning style or your goals, I can match them. You don't have to read music or even want to learn to read music. If you do read a bit or a lot, that's fine too. We can approach your guitar study from any angle. My general approach is to get you playing something you like as fast as possible and learn more about the instrument as we go along.
I can also help you become a songwriter or a better songwriter than you already are. I have developed a system to do just that.
My hours run from mid morning to evening on the days I'm not playing a gig. I work best in my studio in Venice where I have all my teaching resources within instant reach. But some students pay me to drive to them.
My rates are $5 to $10 an hour less than the music stores I've surveyed. So I charge $35 an hour or $17 for half and hour. Your first lesson is free. If you'd like, you can earn a free lesson by prepaying for 10 lessons. You can earn a free lesson by referring a friend to take lessons.
Some Testimonials:
- Bud, It was my extreme pleasure to write a "Bud song" for several reasons. First, teachers are the most VALUABLE people we have - and yet are THE most undervalued people in our culture. Second, you are an AWESOME teacher. No joke. I don't know if you know how many people QUIT lessons because of inflexible type teachers. Happens all the time (I got lucky!). Third, I doubt there is any way you can know how much I appreciate your help. A year ago, there was no way I could ever have foreseen having the confidence to play for people. That is an amazing evolutionary step - and a most wonderful one for me. And finally, in the past, I thought I might be able to write songs. And I always dreamed that one day - I would try and write. Then, before I met you I tried and was TOTALLY at a loss as to how it is done. Now, the fact is I really like several of the songs that have popped out! So, you have made a HUGE difference to me - and I would have to guess a lot of others. I truly thank you. James
- Hey, Bud! I am NOT exaggerating! I learned more in the 90 minutes I enjoyably spend with my Fender 15 Watt practice amp plugged in and your page-by-page than I did in 4 or 5 months with my old teacher! I noticed I'm getting MUCH better at the E form barre chords though which is freakin awesome. :Dawn
- Thanks so much! I find your lessons written with warmth and you "relate" to the task we students face. What I picked up that I had previously overlooked was that you were not anti-sight reading. Rather, your were just putting it into context without getting us mired in theory. I like the idea of "getting us playing sooner". Very positive! M. M. Really enjoyed our session today. MANY THANKS!!! Your lessons are really making a difference. Do you know how hard it has been for me to actually play for friends? Last night I finally did it - played about 12 or 13 songs and it was great. Thanks. J.
